Nick Morley – Linocuts

Artist and illustrator Nick Morley aka Linocutboy is a regular visiting tutor at Intra Arts, but through June we’re excited to host an exhibition of his wonderful large linocuts as well. The show runs from 3 – 30 June 2022 and is timed to coincide with Medway Print Festival.

Taking up one of our large windows, Nick’s enormous Whale linocut print is nearly two metres long and easiest to spot from across the street. It was initially created to be printed by steamroller as part of an event at Ditchling Museum. Subsequently Nick has hand printed an edition of them with a wooden spoon, a task that takes several hours to complete for each print.

Other linocuts in the exhibition feature a bear, rhino, cowboy, deep sea diver and a father and son butterfly-catching team. Nick has such a deft way with linocut, making elegant but economic marks that render so much texture.

Nick wrote our favourite book on linocut technique – Linocut For Artists & Designers, but if you’d like to learn tips directly from him, sign up for his linocut workshop running on June 11th.
