Medway Print Festival 2019

Festival time is coming and June promises to be full of printmaking fun with the annual Medway Print Festival, now in its fourth year. Exhibitions and workshops with a printmaking theme will be springing up across Rochester, Chatham and Upnor over two weeks from Friday 7th to Sunday 23rd June.

What’s on at INTRA during the Festival?

Kristiina Sandoe - Gelli Print 'Huka Falls, near Taupo'At INTRA we’ll be hosting an exciting exhibition ‘Ends of the Earth with new prints by Kristiina Sandoe. Recent travels to New Zealand and Finland were her inspiration, with clever layered imagery using Gelli printing and collagraph capturing the atmosphere of these landscapes beautifully.

If you’re intrigued by the monoprinted works in our exhibition, perhaps come along to try out Gelli printing with Xtina Lamb on Wednesday 12th June. Take an in-depth look at the technique in a three hour class, exploring this versatile print method using a flexible rubbery plate. Great for nature prints, textures, stencil work, and layering colour to create beautiful images and patterns. Xtina has developed gelli monoprinting processes for her artworks and shares her methods in this class.

We’re launching a new addition to our classes during the festival, Mokulito – lithography with wooden plates led by artist Kasia Parker. Mokulito is an alternative lithographic technique, relatively new in the UK, where the printing surface is made of plywood instead of a stone block. Wooden plates can be cut into as well as draw onto, building up contrasting lines, textures and atmospheric imagery. Learn the principles of this exciting technique with Kasia Parker over two Sundays, experimenting with mark making and trying various printing methods. Sunday 16th and 23rd June
